Women’s Rugby Union 1sts seal their place at Big BUCS Wednesday! – BUCS Week 17 – NTU Sport Blog

Multiple huge cup games and crucial end of league campaign fixtures. Week 17 had it all for our NTU Teams.

There is only one place to start, and that is Clifton Hockey Pitch. The Women’s National Vase Knockout Competition our Women’s 1st team, who have had a tough time in National League this year, faced University of Birmingham 2nd team in quarter final action.  The away team brought vocal support, and a tense match was to ensue. The teams couldn’t pull away from one another exchanging goals throughout. The teams couldn’t be separated over normal time, finishing 2-2, this meant penalty flicks. The NTU team held their nerve and won 4-2 in front of an ecstatic home crowd. The team advance to the semi-finals and 1 match from BUCS Big Wednesday.

Also in Vase quarter final action, Men’s Rugby 1s team faced University of Bath 2nd Team at Lady Bay. A big crowd was down to cheer on the team, and it had the desired defect. In another tight affair, 1 score was the difference, with the NTU team winning 24-19.

In national Trophy action on NTU campus was the Womens rugby 1st team. They have had a great season, clinching top spot in Midlands tier 1 and a playoff spot to get into the Premier tier.  They faced a semi-final match against St Mary University- and a place in the Big BUCS Wednesday show piece at stake. It turned out to be a far less tense affair than expected, with the NTU Team winning 45-0 and our 1st team qualified for BBW!

Our longest trip of the week goes to Womens football 1st team. Not to be outdone by their Rugby Counterparts, the team has secured Midlands 1 title and playoff spot, they travelled all the way to St Andrews University for a National Trophy Semi-final. The trip was worth the early start, both for players and fans alike! A thrilling game unfolded, the teams couldn’t be separated after 90 minutes at 1-1 and extra time 3-3 so it went to the dreaded penalties. The NTU team kept their neve winning 6-5 advancing to BUCS Big Wednesday show piece! What a game. Special mention for the late return to Nottingham at 2.30am!

Away from the incredible cup action, there was plenty of important league matches, wrapping up regular seasons. The Womens Badminton 1st team who Faced University of Nottingham 4th could secure promotion to tier 1 and the midlands 2A title with a win. A massive performance gave them a thumping 8-0 victory and seals the title.

Finally, a special mention to Women’s basketball 2nd team who won their 1st and last game against De Montfort University 62-36. The girls have had a tough season after promotion last year and it was great to see the hard work rewarded with a win for the team.

It’s been another fantastic year so far for NTU Teams and too many great stories to fit in a weekly report. To see how all teams are getting on in league and cup competitions head to the BUCS website or BUCS play App.
