Thursday Night Football FanDuel Picks: NFL DFS lineup advice for Week 2 Chargers-Chiefs single-game tournaments

After an exciting first week of the 2022 NFL season, Week 2 kicks off on Thursday night with an outstanding matchup between the Chargers and the Chiefs. Both teams opened up the season last week with a win, as the Chargers defeated the Raiders and the Chiefs took down the Cardinals on the road. This AFC West contest is loaded with talent on both teams, which makes putting together a FanDuel single-game DFS lineup challenging but fun.

Before we get into our picks, here are the notable scoring settings for FanDuel single-game contests: The point total for the “MVP” is multiplied by 1.5, but he doesn’t cost any additional money like the “Captain” in DraftKings Showdown contests. FanDuel’s default scoring is half-point PPR and four-point passing TDs, and there are no bonuses for 300-yard/100-yard games like on DraftKings.

FanDuel Single Game DFS Picks: Chargers vs. Chiefs Week 2 Thursday Night Football

$60,000 budget, need at least one player from each team

MVP (1.5x points): QB Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs ($17,000)

The superstar quarterback had the Chiefs’ offense clicking on all cylinders in Week 1 en route to a 44-21 win over the Cardinals. Mahomes completed 30-of-39 passes for 360 yards and five touchdowns (34.9 fantasy points). It was one of the best performances we saw in Week 1 and very encouraging for Mahomes in the post-Tyreek Hill era. Heading into Thursday night, we should not expect another five-touchdown outing from Mahomes, but 25-30 fantasy points is in play. Last year, he averaged 27.7 fantasy points per game in two outings against the Bolts.

FLEX RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Chiefs ($12,000)

Edwards-Helaire isn’t Austin Ekeler, but he’s a cheaper pivot and has similar upside. CEH proved he could be an RB1 in Week 1, posting 20.9 fantasy points (10 touches, 74 total yards, two touchdowns). The Chargers’ defense will look to contain Travis Kelce and JuJu Smith-Schuster, which should open up more opportunities in the passing game. However, Edwards-Helaire needs to be effective in the running game for the Chiefs to be able to hit the big passing plays. Either way, he’ll pay off.

QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs | D/ST | Kicker

FLEX WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, Chiefs ($11,000)

Smith-Schuster was the second-leading receiver in the Chiefs’ Week 1 victory over the Cardinals, positing six receptions (eight targets) for 79 yards. For Smith-Schuster to live up to $11K value in single-game contests, he probably has to score a touchdown since FanDuel does not give out bonuses for 100-yard performances, but he’s certainly capable of a big game one way or another as the Chiefs’ top wide receiver.

WEEK 2 DFS LINEUPS: FanDuel | DraftKings | Yahoo

FLEX WR Mike Williams, Chargers ($12,500)

Williams had a slow start to the season last weekend but should be due for a bounce-back game on Thursday night. The veteran wide receiver will be Los Angeles’ No. 1 receiver with Keenan Allen out (hamstring). Last week, Williams posted just two receptions (four targets) for 10 yards. The last time he had fewer than three fantasy points was in Week 8 last season against the Patriots (2.9 fantasy points). He will not duplicate this outing and will score at least one touchdown on Thursday night.

WEEK 2 DFS: Best values | Best stacks

FLEX WR Joshua Palmer, Chargers ($7,000)

For our last pick, we are going to throw a dart on Palmer, who had a quiet performance in Week 1 against the Raiders. The second-year wide receiver only had three receptions (four targets) for five yards; however, Palmer will likely double his target share Thursday night without Allen playing on the outside. A big breakout is possible, making him a steal at $7,000.
