Sunday Night Football Betting — It’s hot vs. hot, as Eagles host Cowboys

Can Cowgoys Keep the Magic Alive against the Eagles on Sunday Night Football?

By Charles Jay

The Dallas Cowboys seem to be getting along just fine, thank you, with Cooper Rush at quarterback. So they’re not necessarily in any, well, “rush” to get Dak Prescott back into the lineup. Some BetAnySports customers might disagree with that. But the only thing that will change a lot of minds is if and when Rush encounters total disaster.

Will that happen on Sunday night against the Philadelphia Eagles? We are not altogether sure, but there was also a constituency that thinks the Eagles might be a tad overrated at this moment.

The Cowboys, who have won four games in a row since dropping a 19-3 decision to Tampa Bay in the opener, will face off against the Eagles, the NFL’s only remaining undefeated team, in the Sunday Night Football telecast, beginning at 8:20 p.m. Eastern time on NBC. The Eagles are the home team at Lincoln Financial Field, and they are the top team in the NFC East, it goes without saying.

Sunday Night Football Betting — Let’s talk about the Cowboys

Rush, the Central Michigan product, has been a steady hand, throwing 118 passes without an interception. When he’s playing, the offense isn’t all about the quarterback, as was often the case with Dak Prescott. And speaking of Prescott, he did some pregame warm-ups to test his injured thumb and was ruled inactive.

Dallas comes to the table with perhaps the top pass rush in the NFL, registering 20 sacks. And there is a looming presence of Micah Parsons, who’s got six of those sacks but was hobbling a little bit in last week’s win over the Los Angeles Rams. He’s got a groin injury, and will obviously play, but will he be at or near 100%?

CeeDee Lamb was also a player who was hurting a bit. Obviously he’s important, because he leads the team with 341 receiving yards. But the Cowboys have gotten some unexpected contributions from Noah Brown, who has 19 catches for 278 yards.

And then obviously there is the duo of Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard. It appears as if Pollard is by far the more explosive option, as he is averaging 5.6 yards per carry and also the potential to be useful in the passing game.

Offensive tackle Tyron Smith continues to be out, and that is the kind of thing that might catch up to a  team sooner or later.

Sunday Night Football Betting — Let’s talk about the Eagles

What can you say? Jalen Hurts is starting to emerge as a much more competent passer. He’s now at 68% and has averaged over 8.5 yards per attempt. The big boost in the passing game, obviously, has been the acquisition of AJ Brown and the continued development of former Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith.

And then, of course, there is the bread-and-butter, which is the Philadelphia ground game. If you recall what happened last season, when this team made the switch to being much more of a run-heavy offense last year, good things started to happen. and the Eagles made it to the playoffs.

They are running the ball 54% of the time, which is just about where Nick Sirianni wants it. So it’s much more then just a diversion away from the passing attack.

The general consensus is that Philadelphia is operating with the league’s best offensive line. That might be debatable, but they are by no means subpar. The question that lingers is what they can do to neutralize the rampaging Dallas pass rush – and Parsons.

Sunday Night Football Betting — So what’s the verdict on the Cowboys vs Eagles?

These teams have combined for eleven interceptions, so the quarterbacks obviously have to be careful. Will Dallas get too conservative with Rush at the helm? And do they have to worry about trading points with the Eagles?

So far Dallas has held each of its opponents below 20 points. So they seem content to play defense and avoid mistakes. As the defense is looking pretty good right now, and Parsons, if he’s even close to being full throttle, can chase down Hurts on most occasions, we have to consider that Dallas has played 13 of its last 17 games under the total. Despite the last meeting, in which 77 points were scored, the most judicious play for us here may be going UNDER the total.
