Predicting who will lead the NY Giants in sacks in 2022

While there might be some concerns surrounding the NY Giants on both sides of the ball leading up to the regular season, the pass-rush isn’t on the list. Nope, not even close. That’s because the unit will be led by second-year standout Azeez Ojulari and No. 5 overall pick Kayvon Thibodeaux.

These two have what it takes to be a sensational tag team, and the Big Blue supporters are dreaming of the two both recording double-digit sacks. Both have the potential to do so and you know there’s going to be a friendly competition from start to finish this campaign on who will finish with more QB takedowns. So, who will come out on top?

Azeez Ojulari and Kayvon Thibodeaux leading the NY Giants pass-rush is bad news for opposing QBs

This is going to be a fun rivalry to watch. Starting with Ojulari, he really was impressive in 2021, posting eight sacks. That number set the new (official) rookie sacks record for the G-Men and no one has stopped talking about that. Well, now Thibodeaux has at least eight on his mind – actually a lot more than that.

Earlier this offseason, Thibodeaux revealed that he’s trying to record a sack a game. That would result in 17 for the season, which would be No. 1 all time for a first-year player. Hey, if you’re going dream, dream big. Thibodeaux has all the confidence in the world and he’s ready to remind opposing linemen of how dominant he was in the Pac-12 for the Oregon Ducks.

Yes, 17 would be incredible to see, but that’s going to be tough for Thibodeaux to record. Having said that, we still think the rookie has what it takes to put up some monster numbers this fall and winter. In the matchup between Ojulari and Thibodeaux for most NY sacks this season, we’re going to give the edge to Thibodeaux.

No disrespect to Ojulari, but Thibodeaux is going to be out of this world from the start for the NY defense. We’ll predict Ojulari to record 7.5 sacks in 2022 and Thibodeaux to end up with a head-turning 11.5. Yes, that won’t be close to the 17 Thibodeaux wants, but it will be more than enough to break Ojulari’s rookie mark.
