NY Giants signing Julian Love to an extension must happen immediately

He’s 100 percent earned this. NY Giants safety and team captain Julian Love is in the middle of an incredible year for the G-Men and he’s starting to gain the national recognition he deserves. There’s no question that head man Brian Daboll, defensive coordinator Wink Martindale and general manager Joe Schoen have been impressed with his play.

Earlier this week, Giants insider Pat Leonard reported that Love and NY have started to discuss a possible contract extension. Word spread that Schoen would be ready to talk with Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley, but those deals might have to wait until the offseason. With Love, though, this needs to get done ASAP.

NY Giants giving Julian Love a contract extension is the right thing to do

Love is in the last year of his contract with NY, earning a base salary of a little more than $2.5 million for the year. The standout safety has been worth every penny. Thus far in 2022, the 5-11, 195-pounder has recorded 58 tackles, two pass deflections, one forced fumble and one interception.

No one is going to forget that interception, as it came late in the upset win over the Baltimore Ravens. With Lamar Jackson flying out of the pocket and looking to create some magic downfield, Love was in the right place in the right time to come away with the game-changing turnover. This helped set up the one-yard touchdown run by Saquon Barkley to win it.

After that win, people were showering the DB with all kinds of love, no pun intended. Sure, everyone has been talking about extensions for Barkley and Jones, but Love is fully deserving of more money as well. The DB has been that special.

He’s played lights out for this defense and no one wants to see him on a new team come next campaign. Schoen needs to make him happy and fast. The way to do that? Put a new contract on the table and have Love put the pen to paper.
