NY Giants get fantastic injury update on OLB Kayvon Thibodeaux

Crisis averted. That’s what NY Giants fans are going to be thinking when it comes to No. 5 overall pick Kayvon Thibodeaux, who went down with a serious-looking knee injury on Sunday night against the Cincinnati Bengals.

In the second quarter, Thibodeaux was on the other end of a low block from Thaddeus Moss and went down to the turf in an incredible amount of pain. Plenty of people were worried Thibodeaux had potentially suffered an ACL injury, but we now know that’s not the case. According to Adam Schefter, Thibodeaux has been diagnosed with a sprained MCL and he’ll be out 3-4 weeks. That’s massive.

Initial tests revealed that Giants’ DE Kayvon Thibodeaux suffered a sprained MCL that is expected to sideline him 3-4 weeks, per source. His ACL and meniscus were intact.

Giants are still hopeful that he will be ready for the regular-season opener vs. the Titans, per source.

That’s quite the update there from Schefter and one that Big Blue supporters are surely happy to see. With Thibodeaux out for those 3-4 weeks, there’s still a chance he’s able to give things a go for the season-opener going up against the Tennessee Titans. With that contest coming on Sept. 11, Thibodeaux may have enough time to get himself ready for that matchup.

Head man Brian Daboll and Co. won’t want to rush him back, but it looks like the team is optimistic that he’ll be able to suit up and start his rookie campaign the right way vs. the Titans. Thibodeaux is entering the new season with a ton of hype, as people think he’s got a great chance to break Azeez Ojulari’s rookie sacks record.

We’ll have to wait and see if Thibodeaux can indeed get out there vs. Tennessee, but worst-case scenario he misses that game and then gets himself back on the field shortly after that. On Sunday night, plenty of people were worried that Thibodeaux could miss a large chunk of the campaign – so this latest news on him sure is great to see.

Injuries have been a nightmare for the G-Men this summer, with fellow rookie linebacker Darrian Beavers also suffering a knee injury against the Bengals. Beavers’ injury appears to be a bit more serious than Thibodeaux’s which is unfortunate for the sixth-round pick. More news on Beavers should be coming in the near future.
