NFL Week 14 picks: 49ers’ win streak takes out Bucs; Raiders top Rams

Long story short, here are my NFL picks for Week 14:

49ers 23, Bucs 17: Brock Purdy is favored to beat Tom Brady?! Excuse me, what?! Oh, the 49ers’ defense is favored against the Bucs. Makes sense. Six years after Brady won his Levi’s Stadium debut with four touchdown passes and with Jimmy Garoppolo as his backup, this isn’t a triumphant Bay Area homecoming, not this season (wink, wink). Line: 49ers -3 1/2

Raiders 31, Rams 21: The Baker Mayfield Express pulls into Los Angeles in time for the Rams’ seventh – seventh! – straight defeat. The Raiders are on a Vegas heater and enjoy their fourth straight winning hand. Line: Raiders -6 1/2

Bills 23, Jets 17: The Bills do it for Von Miller, who is out with a torn ACL. This is the Jets’ fourth loss in six games, after a 5-2 mirage. Line: Jets +9 1/2

Bengals 23, Browns 16: The Joe Burrow Foundation launched a “Let’s Do Good” apparel line last month. Maybe Deshaun Watson should wear one of those shirts all game. Line: Bengals -6 1/2

Cowboys 27, Texans 23: It’s a battle for Lone Star bragging rights, prompting the Texans to give Davis Mills his old job back to face the Cowboys’ wrath. Line: Texans +16 1/2

Vikings 27,  Lions 17: How dare anyone make the Vikings (10-2) underdogs in Detroit, all due respect to the Lions winning 4-of-5 entering this game. Vikings +2 1/2

Giants 21, Eagles 20: The New York area is such a lovely place this time of the year for epic scripts: “Elf,” “Home Alone,” and “The Miracle at MetLife Stadium.” Philly loses for only the second time this season, and the NFC’s No. 1 seed is no lock. Line: Giants +6 1/2

Steelers 20, Ravens 16: Mike Tomlin is (bleeping) working! Lamar Jackson (knee) is not. The Steelers just might avoid their first losing season in his 16 years as coach. Line: Steelers -2 1/2

Titans 28, Jaguars 17: Stunning that Trent Baalke is the only general manager employed in this AFC South matchup. The first-place Titans fired theirs, Jon Robinson, this week. Line: Titans -3 1/2

Broncos 28, Chiefs 24: Stunning that Denver wins at home against the Chiefs for the first time since 2015. Spike that eggnog Sunday Night! Line: Broncos -9 1/2

Seahawks 21, Panthers 16: With Kenneth Walker II and DeeJay Dallas ailing, Seattle should just turn to D.K. Metcalf, who has just three carries in 61 career games. (The 49ers’ Deebo Samuel has 151 carries in 55 games, playoffs included. He and Metcalf both signed three-year, $72 million extensions this year.) Line: Seahawks -4

Dolphins 33, Chargers 23: The Dolphins do better in Southern California’s warmer water than the Bay Area’s. Line: Dolphins -3 1/2

Cardinals 27, Patriots 24: DeAndre Hopkins is “every bit as good as anybody I’ve ever coached against,” Bill Belichick said. Line: Cardinals + 1/2

Last week: 11-3-1 straight up, 12-3 against the spread

Season: 98-66-2 straight up, 91-73-1 against the spread
