The Green Bay Packers are thought to be preparing for life without Aaron Rodgers as the quarterback is expected to join the New York Jets this offseason, though retirement still looms.

According to former NFL exec Michael Lombardi, the team has set an asking price for the veteran QB which is way more than what has been reported. Various outlets have suggested that a second-round pick would suffice in exchange for Rodgers but Lombardi is claiming they are keen on securing a first-round pick, as well as another pick which would be triggered if Rodgers decides to play past the 2023/24 season.

Lombardi, who was speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, also declared Rodgers is very likely to hold off on retiring at least one more season as NY wouldn’t have wasted jet fuel on him if they didn’t believe he was still keen on playing.

Rodgers is 39 years old but still believes he can play at a high level and that cannot be doubted. The Jets are confident they can win a Super Bowl with him in the backfield as they reckon they’re only a good QB away from a championship.

The team has already held talks with Rodgers and it’s now left for him to decide what he wants to do.

As for the Packers, they’re ready to move on with Jordan Love as their starter, so anything they get in return for a player whom they’re looking to get rid of could be considered a bonus.
