Abuse can be both emotional/mental or physical, yet some parents still believe in corporal punishment. If you feel you are being abused then that is your Right to stop the abuse. If you can talk with your parents about “communication” and how things might improve because the hitting is making you feel abused, not stating it will change anything but at least you attempted to communicate your feelings. Not abuse. But you didn’t complete chores you were told to you. I got one warning to finish my chores but the second time I’d get a spanking. Anytime someone hits you it is abusive. You aren’t going to remember the “why” necessarily, but you will always remember the mental and physical pain of being hit. Yes , this is abuse. I’m so sorry he’s hitting you instead of talking to you or perhaps taking away a privilege. He sounds like he’s obsessive. If needed you can report him to a teacher or counselor at your school. They’ll need to report this to authorities by law.

YES!!!!!! If it’s something so little as that when you are a minor, yes it is abuse!!!!! If you are an adult, your dad hitting at all is abuse and you have the right to call the cops on him!!! Dad could read on discipline and life could be better. Sounds like Dad is not happy with his own life so tends to take his anger out on you. Can you talk to a trusted adult like the counselor at school or your priest/minister? Tell them your story and ask for guidance on how to proceed. Yes, hitting a child is abuse no matter what the context is, it’s not discipline at all, it just makes you fear your parents and it’s a lazy way of parenting that parents use to keep their kids under control because they’re lazy and can’t be bothered to deal with whatever tantrum or argument you might have with them, so instead they hit you because they want you to fear them so they can control you, don’t let that happen. So yes it’s abuse no matter how frequently. I know you don’t want to hear this but your dad is using fear as a way to get you to behave because he can’t be bothered to deal with your possible tantrums. How do you feel when he hits you? Scared? Annoyed? Anxious? All are negative feelings that you will begin to associate with your dad and when you see him, your brain signifies danger and you eventually become numb to the sense of danger and you have less of a fear factor because you’ve been conditioned with a sense of fear throughout your whole life and you’ll also be brought up thinking that if things don’t go your way then hit them. This is why sociopaths are made because they’re brought up thinking that hitting people is ok and they develop a lack of empathy over time and become numb to the sense of danger over time. I know this is kinda unrelated to the question and I really couldn’t give two shits who this offends, I don’t care if it gets downvoted.
