Just a few weeks ago, it seemed like the NY Giants wouldn’t be in a position to land what many fans consider would be a dream addition for the offense. Oh, how things have changed, though. In this case, we’re talking about TCU standout wide receiver Quentin Johnston. In a lot of NFL Mock Drafts, we’ve seen Johnston off the board before NY gets on the clock.
However, ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. sees things playing out a different way once late April arrives. In his newest NFL Mock Draft, Kiper Jr. sees Johnston still being available for Joe Schoen and Co. with the No. 25 overall pick. That’s right, Kiper believes the 6-4, 215-pounder will don a Big Blue jersey come next season.
TCU WR Quention Johnston would be a major get for the NY Giants
Imagine a healthy Wan’Dale Robinson on the inside, plus Isaiah Hodgins and Quentin Johnston on the outside for Daniel Jones. That’s a great start to rebuilding the wide receivers unit, but obviously there’d still be plenty of work to be done. With the Giants set to release Kenny Golladay on March 15, that clears up more cap space for Schoen to work with.
It’s going to take time for Johnston to develop in the NFL, but goodness, this kid has a bright future. With the G-Men expected to figure things out with Jones soon as well, adding a playmaker like Johnston would be fantastic for this team overall.
Brian Daboll would certainly like working with Johnston too, as would offensive coordinator Mike Kafka. There have been several names linked to the Giants for the first round, with wide receiver being a focus. NY supporters have their eyes on Johnston, Jordan Addison, Jalin Hyatt, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and others.
The fact of the matter is that a WR1 for the future is needed for this team. If Kiper turns out to be right with Johnston, a lot of people will be celebrating him joining the Giants.
