Definitely. I’ve had experiences of not being listened to at work. Men still have more opportunities within the film industry than women do. It’s still a fight. It feels like you’re often drawn to strong female characters—even with your breakout role in Bend It Like Beckham. Has that been conscious? With Bend It Like Beckham, in particular, I was in a school football team. I’d fought with my school to get that football team. I even did a big speech on sexism in sport. That’s probably one of the reasons that I got the job.
