Derek Carr Already Auditioning For New Team – JoeBucsFan.com – Tampa Bay Bucs Blog, Buccaneers News

“Come to Tampa Bay, Derek! We’ll go get liquored up at Hooters. Boy, do I have stories about the Bucs!”

Yesterday, there was a skills competition for quarterbacks in Sin City as part of the Pro Bowl Games, one in a series of events leading up to Sunday’s flag football game.

There, because Joe Burrow begged out of the Pro Bowl, was Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, who was told to stay away from team as the Raiders want to dump him before Feb. 15 so they don’t have to pay a $40 million roster bonus.

Joe saw a video from Kyle Brandt of NFL Network saying how weird it was to see Carr walk around the site of the event at the Raiders’ facility in suburban Las Vegas, but Carr was rolling with generic AFC gear not Raiders gear.

Then, Brandt said, Carr lit up the skills competition as best by far. Former Steelers and WTF cornerback Ryan Clark, who was covering the event for BSPN, backed up what Brandt saw and said Carr was simply on fire.

Basically, it appeared Carr was auditioning for his next team. Carr could be traded in the next couple of weeks or he may be released. Time will tell.

Joe’s hunch is that Todd Bowles very much prefers a veteran quarterback as opposed to green-as-grass Kyle Trask. If Bowles has another losing season in 2023, Joe wouldn’t be confident Bowles returns with the Bucs in 2024.

Unless the Bucs launch Operation Tank and activate #CollapseForCaleb.

Remember, in his season-ending press conference, Bowles said you are always reloading and never rebuilding. Well, if you start a guy in his third season who has yet to start an NFL game, you’re rebuilding whether you like it or not. Or you are tanking, but surely one of the two.

Joe is also going to take a leap and figure that Carr being a class guy really appeals to Bowles. And the Bucs, Joe believes, would be appealing to Carr. How many teams boast Mike Evans and Chris Godwin and have an opening at quarterback?

The problem with the Bucs and Carr now, aside from salary, is who the hell will be calling the plays? Joe assumes Carr (and his agent) sure would like to know.
