Another Action-Packed Week of Sport! – BUCS Week 9 – NTU Sport Blog

Week 9 of action, saw the penultimate full Wednesday of fixtures of term 1. Another action-packed week including over 80 NTU fixtures across Nottingham and the UK.

Our first results of the week start at the weekend just gone. Our Men’s Futsal 1st team have made an impressive start to their league campaign currently sitting 2nd only 3 points off top spot. Last Sunday they faced a local rival in UoN’s 1st team, a Premier division clash that always heightens emotions. It proved a tense match, with only 2 goals separating the teams however the boys in pink won 12-10 to cement their top 2 credentials.

Also on Sunday, this time away from home, our American Football team were facing off against University of Warwick, in a game they needed to win to kick start their campaign after 2 tough defeats to Loughborough University.  It proved a low scoring affair, but the Renegades ground out a 9-0 victory and move them into a stronger position in Tier 1 to have a strong 2nd half to the season and into the playoffs.

To Wednesday now, and our Golf 1st team who were adapting very well to life in Midlands tier 1, were also away to University of Warwick, in a match that if won could put them in a great position to push for back to back promotions. The match came down to a single point, but NTU once again showed their composure winning 3.5 points to 2.5 and cement 2nd place in the league.

At home on Clifton campus our Women’s Tennis 1st team, were playing University of Cambridge 2nd team. They new a win would send them top of the league with 2 league games left and destiny in their own hands for promotion with game against 2nd and 3rd left to come. The team put in a stunning performance, coming out 6-0 winner not dropping a set, and sit top of the league in Midlands tier 2.

Our Men’s Volleyball 1st team have a had a tough year so far, with some close loses, confidence was needed to give them impetus going into the 2nd half of the season. They faced the university of Derby 1st team at LWSC. A tight first set was edged by the home team, and that gave them the lift they needed to find their stride and bring the win home 3-0.

Finally, our Men’s Lacrosse team faced old rival Durham University in a Premier tier match looking to secure 2nd spot in the league and a more favourable cup draw. They won the reverse away at Durham, so confidence was high. They took that confidence into opening quarter and dominated their opponents, winning 16-4.
